“Leylak” is a powerful feature film set in New York City during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It follows Yusuf, a 45-year-old immigrant gravedigger in Queens, as he struggles to make ends meet while caring for his eleven-year-old daughter, Renk. After the devastating loss of his wife to COVID-19, Yusuf is consumed with guilt and unable to face the truth, choosing instead to shield his daughter from the reality of her mother’s passing. As days go by, the emotional weight becomes impossible to bear, leading to an inevitable and deeply human reckoning between father and daughter.
